Sturridge injury: Hodgson insists England stars can’t all have two days off

first_imgRoy Hodgson insists he can’t afford to give his players two days off every time they get together – otherwise England will never train at all.The Three Lions’ training regime has come under scrutiny after Daniel Sturridge was injured while on international duty last month, a situation Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers insists could have been avoided had the striker’s recovery from a session been managed by his country in the same way it is by his club. But Hodgson, while stressing there is no problem between him and the Anfield boss, says England have to continue doing things their way.He said: “If I’m going to be put under pressure in future to give every player two days off every time we play, then we won’t train at all quite frankly, because we don’t have enough time pre-match and post-match.“We’re very disappointed about it [Sturridge’s injury], and it’s obviously something we will consider going forward.“But the other thing people do need to consider is we have such a shortage of time and on this particular occasion we had two days to try and hone a very different way of playing.” 1 Daniel Sturridge and Roy Hodgson last_img read more
